Drake and Rihanna lead the pack with five nods each, the awards show Show air’s live from LA Sept. 6th, at 8 pm ET/PT

Thursday, September 6th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the 2012 VMAs will take over Staples for the first time. The epicenter of the L.A. sports and entertainment universe is just the latest iconic venue the VMAs have called home, joining a list that includes New York’s Radio City Music Hall, the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and American Airlines Arena in Miami.

It’s fitting the 2012 VMAs are moving to Staples; after all, they’ll need a big house to match the big-time impact of last year’s show, which scored MTV’s biggest audience in the network’s history with a record-breaking 12.4 million viewers and were also the most tweeted-about awards show ever.  (Click Link )   2012 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

Highly Anticipated Debut of “Jersey Shore” Season Six Set for Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 p.m.
Premiere of New Scripted Comedic Drama “Underemployed” on Tuesday, October 16 at 10:00 p.m.
New Docu-Series “Catfish: The TV Show” Debuts on Monday, November 12 at 10:00 p.m.
Followed by the Return of “World of Jenks” at 11:00 p.m.  “Snooki & JWOWW” and “Money From Strangers” Renewed for Second Seasons

MTV also unveiled an all-new clip from the upcoming comedy “The Inbetweeners,” set to debut on Monday, August 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, check it out  HERE.

MTV claims six of the top fifteen cable series this year among P12-34, tripling the amount of its nearest competitor.  Reality series are incredibly strong, with the network boasting five of the top ten cable reality series so far this year, with “Jersey Shore” ruling at #1, followed by “Teen Mom 2,” “Teen Mom,” “Snooki & JWOWW,” and “The Challenge.”  On the scripted front, “Teen Wolf” and “Awkward” rank among the top ten scripted series across cable.

“Jersdays” are back with the premiere of season six of “Jersey Shore” on Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 p.m.  ET/PT.  The new scripted comedic drama series “Underemployed” from Emmy-nominated creator Craig Wright will debut on Tuesday, October 16 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.  New docu-series “Catfish: The TV Show,” based on the critically-acclaimed Sundance film, will premiere on Monday, November 12 at 10:00 p.m., followed by the return of “World of Jenks” at 11:00 p.m., featuring Andrew Jenks, the documentarian of his generation.

MTV today announced WALK THE MOON will take the stage for the Grammy® and Emmy® award-winning series, “Unplugged,” now back for the 2012 season, with State Farm® serving as exclusive digital sponsor. The episode, which features a five-song set, plus one digital-only exclusive, will debut on Monday, August 6 on Unplugged.MTV.com beginning at 2pm EST.

The eight-song set includes selections from their debut album, including “Anna Sun,” which MTV fans and Seventeen Magazine readers named the top summer song of 2012, “Tightrope,” “Shiver Shiver,” “Iscariot,” “Next in Line,” “I Can Lift a Car,” a brand new song, “Tete a Tete,” as well as a stunning cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps”.

Launched in Ohio in 2008 by lead singer, songwriter and keyboard player Nicholas Petricca, WALK THE MOON includes Kevin Ray (bass, vocals), Eli Maiman (guitar, vocals) and Sean Waugaman (drums, vocals). Named one of “MTV’s Artists to Watch for 2012,” WALK THE MOON, who has already toured as part of MTVU’s first ever “Woodies Tour” with Young the Giant as well as with the Kaiser Chiefs, are currently on their first headlining tour. They have captured the attention of fans and critics alike with their colorful and energetic live performances.  WALK THE MOON’s self titled album is produced by Ben H. Nicki joined Waka and Tyga on set to shoot the song’s video, where she told MTV News that things between her and Waka are still golden.

Nicki Minaj was managed by Waka’s Mom, Debra Antney, and when they parted ways; Despite some of the fallout from that separation, Nicki brushes it off now, confirming that it hasn’t affected her relationship with Waka.

MTV PROVES IT’S COOL TO BE “AWKWARD,” RENEWING THE HIT SERIES FOR A THIRD SEASON AND UPPING THE EPISODE ORDER TO 20

MTV announced today the pick-up of a third season of its critically acclaimed scripted comedy series “Awkward.”  Season three will feature 20 episodes, nearly double the number of its first and second seasons. 

“Lauren Iungerich’s creative vision, coupled with this extraordinarily talented cast, make ‘Awkward’ the perfect series for MTV,” said David Janollari, Head of MTV Programming.  “Critics and our audience alike have fallen in love with ‘Awkward,’ and we’re thrilled to bring this terrific series back for a third, supersized season.”

Ashley Rickards, who stars as “Jenna Hamilton,” received a nomination for a Critics Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, and was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award for her performance.  Beau Mirchoff who plays “Matty,” recently won the Teen Choice Award for “Choice TV Breakout Star” for his role on the show. 

“Awkward” currently ranks as a one of top cable series on Thursday nights and draws 1.8 million total viewers each week.  The series, in both season one and two, is the #1 show across all TV in its time period among W12-34 and Teens.  In season two, “Awkward” is up six percent from its previous season. 

On the social front, “Awkward” continues to engage users every week, regularly ranking as one of the top five most social shows across cable and broadcast, according to Social Guide.  The series has also seen its social footprint more than quadruple in size since the end of its first season. 

“Awkward” is part of MTV’s continued commitment to scripted programming, along with the hit drama “Teen Wolf,” which was recently picked up for a third season as well, featuring a 24 episode order.  Next in line is new comedy series “The Inbetweeners” set to debut on Monday, August 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the comedic drama “Underemployed” from Emmy-nominated creator Craig Wright, which will premiere this fall on the network.

On tomorrow night’s all-new episode airing Thursday, July 26 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, Valentine’s Day has arrived and is dividing the school between swooning lovers and jealous haters.  Jenna thinks Jake is using Matty as his covert Cupid to plan the perfect date, but is confused to discover the intel was for his night out with new crush Courtney – turning Jenna’s perfect night into the accidental double date from hell.  Click here for a special sneak peek.

MTV PROVES IT’S COOL TO BE “AWKWARD,” RENEWING THE HIT SERIES FOR A THIRD SEASON AND UPPING THE EPISODE ORDER TO 20

MTV announced today the pick-up of a third season of its critically acclaimed scripted comedy series “Awkward.”  Season three will feature 20 episodes, nearly double the number of its first and second seasons. 

“Lauren Iungerich’s creative vision, coupled with this extraordinarily talented cast, make ‘Awkward’ the perfect series for MTV,” said David Janollari, Head of MTV Programming.  “Critics and our audience alike have fallen in love with ‘Awkward,’ and we’re thrilled to bring this terrific series back for a third, supersized season.”

Ashley Rickards, who stars as “Jenna Hamilton,” received a nomination for a Critics Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, and was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award for her performance.  Beau Mirchoff who plays “Matty,” recently won the Teen Choice Award for “Choice TV Breakout Star” for his role on the show. 

“Awkward” currently ranks as a one of top cable series on Thursday nights and draws 1.8 million total viewers each week.  The series, in both season one and two, is the #1 show across all TV in its time period among W12-34 and Teens.  In season two, “Awkward” is up six percent from its previous season. 

On the social front, “Awkward” continues to engage users every week, regularly ranking as one of the top five most social shows across cable and broadcast, according to Social Guide.  The series has also seen its social footprint more than quadruple in size since the end of its first season.

Google’s Marissa Mayer Becomes Yahoo’s New CEO

Marissa Mayer, the youngest member of Google’s executive team, has just become the CEO of Yahoo!.

Yahoo! has announced Mayer as President, CEO, and board member of the company. Yahoo! had been shopping around for a new CEO for a while, and the last two names to be considered for the position were interim CEO Ross Levinsohn and Hulu head Jason Kilar. Kilar dropped out of the running by declining to be considered – so many assumed that Levinsohn would just continue on as permanent head of the company.

“I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo!, one of the internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users. I look forward to working with the Company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world,” said Mayer.

Mayer was the first female engineer at Google, coming aboard as the company’s 20th employee in 1999. As of late, Mayer had been heading up maps and location services for Google.

Mayer resigned her position at Google today and will begin work at Yahoo! on Tuesday.
