EIGHT TIME GRAMMY WINNER DOLLY PARTON TO BE HONORED AS 2019 MUSICARES PERSON OF THE YEAR GALA BENEFITING MUSIC PEOPLE IN NEED WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, FEB. 8th, 2019
Eight-time GRAMMY® winner Dolly Parton will be honored at the 2019 MusiCares® Person of the Year tribute on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, it was announced today by Neil Portnow, President/CEO of MusiCares and the Recording Academy™.
Proceeds from the 29th annual benefit gala will provide essential support for MusiCares (www.musicares.org), a charity founded by the Recording Academy that ensures music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical, and personal need. The tribute will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center two nights prior to the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards®.
Parton will be the first artist from the Nashville music community to be honored by MusiCares. She is being recognized as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year for her considerable creative accomplishments and her longtime support of a number of causes through her Dollywood Foundation, including the Imagination Library, which, since 1996, has provided more than 100 million books to children from birth to 5 years of age in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the U.K.
“Dolly Parton has always been and continues to be a courageous trailblazer and indomitable inspiration for creators and artists—so for us to have the opportunity to honor her at our annual MusiCares Person of the Year gala is to pay tribute to a true pillar of strength and someone who we all look up to and cherish,” said Portnow.
“With her legendary talent, she has forged a career that spans decades, and her gifts as a performer resound on both stage and screen. Dolly also knows the power of philanthropy and she has used her stardom to contribute to a wide range of causes from natural disasters to education and literacy programs.”
“I am so excited and humbled to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year,” said Parton. “It’s even more special knowing the gala benefits music people in need. I can’t wait to hear all of the great artists singing my music.”
Remarks Parton’s manager Danny Nozell, CEO, CTK Management, “I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to be the first MusiCares Person of the Year representing the Nashville music community. It’s been a privilege to witness her generous heart firsthand for the last 14 years.”
“With each passing year, the goal of MusiCares remains clear: to do more and serve more music people in need,” said Michael McDonald, MusiCares’ Board Chair. “Over the course of our last fiscal year, we provided more than $6.4 million dollars to more than 8,500 members of the music industry—the largest number of clients served and dollars distributed in a single year in our charity’s history. We are confident that our 2019 Person of the Year tribute to Dolly Parton will help us raise the funds that sustain and expand our mission.”
The MusiCares Person of the Year tribute ceremony is one of the most prestigious events held during GRAMMY Week. The Person of the Year gala will begin with a reception and silent auction offering an exclusive and unparalleled selection of luxury items, VIP experiences, and one-of-a-kind celebrity memorabilia for bidding guests. The reception and silent auction will be followed by a gala dinner sponsored by AEG; a live auction; a tribute concert featuring renowned musicians and other artists; and the award presentation.
The celebration culminates with the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. The telecast will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy, MusiCares offers health and human services and programs to members of the music community, including emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, and car payments; medical expenses, including doctor, dentist and hospital bills; and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, hepatitis C, and other critical illnesses.
MusiCares offers nationwide educational workshops covering a variety of subjects, including financial, legal, medical, and substance abuse issues, and programs in collaboration with health care professionals that provide services such as flu shots, hearing tests, and medical/dental screenings.
MusiCares provides access to addiction recovery treatment and sober living resources for members of the music community. Staffed by qualified chemical dependency and intervention specialists, MusiCares offers Safe Harbor Room® support, sponsored in part by the Bohemian Foundation, to provide a network to those in recovery while they are participating in the production of televised music shows and other major music events. MusiCares holds weekly addiction support groups for people to discuss how to best cope with the issues surrounding the recovery process.

The Recording Academy® will kick off the announcement of the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards® nominations Monday, Dec. 7th by revealing the nominees in the four General Field categories (Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year) live on “CBS This Morning.” Immediately following, at 8:30 a.m. ET, nominations across all 83 categories will be announced via press release and made available on GRAMMY.com.
Music’s Biggest Night scheduled for Monday, Feb. 15th, 2016, at Staples Center in Los Angeles
GRAMMY Week — a weeklong series of cultural events culminating with Music’s Biggest Night — will again feature celebrations of music, education and philanthropy, including the annual MusiCares Person of the Year tribute, Clive Davis’ and The Recording Academy’s Pre-GRAMMY Gala, the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception, the Producers & Engineers Wing event, and the Entertainment Law Initiative luncheon, among other events.
This edition of the Grammy Awards presentation will mark the first time the ceremony will be held on a Monday, after several years when the awards were presented on Sundays. The move is said to be temporary, as this edition will fall in an American holiday weekend (15 February will be President’s Day), and the Grammy organization opted for a ceremony to be held at the end, rather than in the middle of, this long holiday weekend. In addition, the move also avoids the ceremony facing stiff ratings competition from AMC’s hit horror series The Walking Dead.
The GRAMMY Awards telecast is one of television’s major broadcast events, ranking as one of the highest-rated and most-watched specials. This year’s 57th GRAMMYs drew 27 million viewers and generated 20.9 million show-related tweets globally. A combined viewership of more than 40 million in the U.S. alone tuned in for three GRAMMY-related shows during GRAMMY “season”: the 57th GRAMMY telecast, “A Very GRAMMY Christmas” and the star-studded “Stevie Wonder: Songs In The Key Of Life — An All-Star GRAMMY Salute.”

Peer-to-peer lending platforms such as Prosper and Lending Club have been in connecting wholesale numbers of individual lenders and borrowers.
Those earning little-to-nothing on their cash can more easily be connected to people who are willing to give them an above-market rate of return for capital, with no intermediary bank needed. “It’s absolutely the perfect arbitrage between countless frustrated low-yield investors and countless desperate small business owners hungry for financial survival and growth.
Brief History of P2P Lending Online
It was not until well after the new millennium started that for-profit p2p lending started to arise on the web. In 2005,Zopa started up in the UK as the world’s first online p2p lending service, and they are still going strong nowadays as the #1 p2p lending firm in the U.K. marketplace. In the United States of America, Prosper Marketplace started operations in Feb 2006 and within 9 weeks they’d received 100,000 members and serviced $20 million in loans.
peer-to-peer lending sites
They had the P2P loans marketplace to themselves until Lending Club started up in 2007. Within a year’s time of Prosper launching, Lending Club sprang up to contend straight against Prosper head-to-head.
But these successful, venture capital-backed startups also offer portfolios of loans that have quietly registered four to six years of solid returns with low defaults
P2P Lending Site Funding Circle Raises $150M Led By DST At A $1B+ Valuation
There are a number of other online lending platforms in the market today — Lending Club, Prosper, Zopa and Smava (which raised money today too) being a just a handful of the others out there working specifically in the area of P2P loans.
Samir Desai, the co-founder and CEO of Funding Circle, tells me that the company was not actively looking to raise the money and doesn’t even actually need it at the moment (sound familiar?). Of the $65 million it raised last summer, the “vast majority is still on the balance sheet,” he said in an interview.
Because of this low awareness that Desai thinks the big competition for Funding Circle remains to be more traditional banks, which still account for most of the loans that small businesses get today.
Launched in 2010, Desai says that Funding Circle currently has around 40,000 investors putting money up for loans on its platform, with lenders ranging from individuals through to large institutions like the UK government.
The key characteristics of peer-to-peer lending are:
it is conducted for profit;
no necessary common bond or prior relationship between lenders and borrowers;
Taylor Swift‘s 1989 has dominated the charts since its October release, so it’s no surprise that she also leads the just-announced finalists for the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.
Finalists were revealed Tuesday (April 7), starting with the first five categories announced by returning BBMA hostLudacris and Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz on ABC’s Good Morning America. Then Luda’s first-time co-host Chrissy Teigen and Empire star Jussie Smollett unveiled the remaining finalists during a Twitter press conference and Q&A.
Following Swift — who racked up 14 entries in 13 categories — is Sam Smith (13), Iggy Azalea (12) and Meghan Trainor (nine). Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social-media interactions — measurements that are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of March 10, 2014, through March 8, 2015.
In addition to this year’s 40 chart-specific categories, fans will choose who gets the Billboard chart achievement award by voting on Billboard.com, BillboardMusicAwards.com and on Twitter; Swift, Azalea and Trainor are up for the only fan-voted prize.
The Billboard Music Awards — produced by Dick Clark Productions — will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17, from 8-11 p.m. ET on ABC.

YOUNG MONEY, BEYONCÉ AND PHARRELL WIN BIG AT THEBET AWARDS 2014
EPIC EVENING FEATURES PERFORMANCES BY CHRIS BROWN, LIL WAYNE, JENNIFER HUDSON, NICKI MINAJ, YOLANDA ADAMS AND MORE
Pharrell Williams opened the show with an energetic rendition of “Come Get It Bae” surrounded by a bevy of cheerleaders, and was joined by surprise performer and fellow Virginia native, the amazing Missy Elliott, who brought the crowd to their feet to “Pass That Dutch.” Williams became a familiar face on the stage after winning both “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” and “Video of the Year,” and again coming on to present music icon Lionel Richie with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Young Money and Beyoncé took home the most trophies with three awards, as did acclaimed film “12 Years A Slave” which swept the film award categories. Pharrell Williams and August Alsina each won two awards.
The tribute to Richie included a presentation of classics “Hello” and “Still” by John Legend and a pulsating rendition of “Brick House” by Ledisi. Just before Richie came on stage to accept his award, Yolanda Adams delivered a soulful, inspired performance of “Jesus Is Love,” bringing the crowd to its feet (and some to tears!) and prompting Richie to admit he was “glad [he] sang the song first.” Richie showed off his own skills when he sat at the piano and serenaded the audience with “Easy,” then got the crowd dancing along to “All Night Long.”
Chris Brown made a triumphant return to the “BET Awards” stage that drew a standing ovation. He proved he hasn’t missed a beat delivering an incredible performance of “Loyal,” which was amped up even more with appearances by Lil Wayne, Tyga and Travis Barker.
Always one to get the crowd going, Lil Wayne got the mosh pit popping with “Krazy” and “Believe Me.” Jennifer Hudson showed off her incredibly powerful pipes during a performance of “Walk It Out” and debut of her new single “It’s Your World” as a disco roller derby swirled around her. One of today’s hottest rising stars, Jhené Aiko joined John Legend on stage for one of the most impressive performances of the evening.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his first album, Usher performed an action-packed medley of his biggest hits, including “Yeah!” “Confessions,” “Caught Up” and “Love In This Club,” which drew a standing ovation. Nicki Minaj gave an dramatic Alice In Wonderland-inspired performance of “Chi-Raq” and “Pills N Potions,” filling the stage with oversized mushrooms, a contemporary dancer and a white rabbit.
T.I. showed off his lyrical prowess with “No Mediocre,” while Iggy Azalea wowed the crowd with her skills with her hit single “Fancy.” Fan and crowd favorite August Alsina, whose earlier performance alongside Trey Songz and Chris Brown drew squeals from all of the ladies in the house, took home the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award. Robin Thicke gave a mesmerizing performance of “Forever Love,” while surprise performers Troop, Color Me Badd and Silk scored huge cheers, as each group took the stage for their biggest hits for a ’90s throwback medley of “All I Do Is Think of You,” “I Wanna Sex You Up” and “Freak Me.”
Presenter Kerry Washington, making her first television appearance since giving birth to daughter Isabelle in April, got in on the night’s fun with co-presenter Kevin Hart, who tried to convince the crowd that he was, in fact, Oliver Pope, a reference to Kerry’s alter-ego Olivia Pope on her hit show “Scandal.”
Taking a cue from Ellen DeGeneres’ pizza delivery at this year’s Oscar® Awards, Rock provided the audience with a delivery of Roscoe’s Chicken ‘n Waffles, which they accepted with enthusiasm. Rock had the crowd laughing throughout the night, thanks to his riffs on a range of hot topics, from Donald Sterling to Jay-Z and Solange to Dr. Dre and the Beats/Apple deal.
A taped performance of Beyoncé and Jay-Z of “Partition” capped the epic night, which delivered on its promise to be the hottest ticket in town. The “BET Awards” ’14 drew the biggest names in music, entertainment and sports, with appearances by Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Regina Hall, Larenz Tate, Bow Wow, Keshia Chante, Eva Marcille, Terrence Jenkins, Keyshia Cole, Mike Tyson, Nick Cannon, Zendaya, DeSean Jackson, Boris Kodjoe, Gary Owen, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chadwick Boseman, Tyrese and Nate Parker.
Tim King (Founder, President and CEO of Urban Prep Academies) and Denzel Thompson (a 19-year-old founder and manager of a successful community urban farm and garden) were recognized as the 2014 Shine-A-Light recipients.
The “BET Awards” is one of the most watched award shows on cable television according to the Nielsen Company. The “BET Awards” franchise remains as the #1 program in cable TV history among Urban-Americans, and it is BET’s #1 telecast every year. It recognizes the triumphs and successes of artists, entertainers and athletes in 19 categories.
